When you think of Chinese food, what do you think about? Only JamBong or JaJangMeon? You are missing out! Reflecting Chinese’s multicultural lifestyle based on diverse climate and culture, Chinese cuisine is a colorful blend of many kinds of ingredients and influences. In the past, unless visiting China, you would not be able to have the chance to experience the real Chinese taste. Now, here are three Chinese restaurants close to our campus where you can taste real food from different places of China.
If you want to enjoy
a real snack, we will introduce you this store named ‘JianBingGuoZi’ in
Chinese, also called ‘JeonByeongGwaJa’
in Korean.
To get there, you have to come out of exit 2 of Ewha women’s
university station and walk for about 5 minutes until you find ‘Yes Apm’. The
restaurant is in the
backstreet of ‘Yes Apm’.
There are many dishes
which are from northern China in this restaurant. First of all, there is ‘JianBingGuoZi’, the name
and the main dish of this store. It is a kind of Chinese crepe or crispy sandwich. It is made of vegetables, sausages,
and eggs. It is so convenient to eat
that you can see this easily on Chinese streets. However, this restaurant is one of the few places that serve it in Korea. Secondly,
there is ‘LiangPi’. It is made from rice flour and tastes a little spicy. It
usually is enough for one meal in northern Chinese’s life.
About price, ‘JianBingGuoZi’ costs
3,000 won and it costs about 300 won or 400 won additionally when you want to
add other things. ‘LiangPi’
costs 5,000 won.
Because the restaurant is
decorated in the Chinese style, you can
see many red decorative elements in there, including walls. The foods of this restaurant taste like
real Chinese foods, so many Chinese students come to eat there as well as
Korean students. This restaurant is small and there are only 3-4 tables in it, but they
are clean and comfortable for eating.
‘KuBok’ is located
in Shinchon and at Ewha University street and the storekeeper is from South
China. Come out of exit 3 of Shinchon Station, enter the street on the right of
Paris Baguette and turn left at GS Convenience Store, then the restaurant can
be seen.
The Menu of ‘KuBok’ includes ‘XiaoLongBao’, ‘MaPoToFu’ and ‘HongShaoNiuRouMian’. These
menus are not familiar to Koreans but they are typical Chinese foods. The price
of ‘XiaoLongBao’ is 5500 won, ‘MaPoToFu’ is 9000 won and ‘HongShaoNiuRouMian’ is 7500
won. These prices are relatively cheaper than those of other Chinese
restaurants. Also, ‘KuBok’
sells ‘QingDao,’ a Chinese beer.
The atmosphere of the
restaurant is very comfortable and cozy. There are only five small solid wood
tables. It is totally decorated with solid wood and red ornaments which let
customers feel a Chinese atmosphere. Also,
the walls are decorated with charming props like dishes, ceramics and
folding fans.
The third place we
recommend is ‘XiaoFeiYang’ which is a famous Chinese chain restaurant. It is located in Mapo-gu,
Seoul, near Hongik University. It’s next to ‘Olive
Young’
and is on the second floor of the building. You can easily reach this
place by coming out of exit 2 of Hongdae
subway station.
'XiaoFeiYang'
serves Chinese foods that taste just like original Chinese foods. Many people
who visit this restaurant are there to try huǒguō, the Chinese Shabu-Shabu.
Since it’s a buffet, you can eat as much as you can for three hours. You can
choose either lamb or beef to put in the huǒguō pot. Moreover, you can put
fresh vegetables and other things of your choice in your pot. It costs 20,900
won on weekdays, and 23,900 won on weekends and holidays for adults.
‘XiaoFeiYang’
is a fancy place to enjoy real Chinese food with your family. It makes you feel
like you are in China since all the employees are Chinese and also you can see
many Chinese customers. This restaurant is very neat and clean. Also, you can
see a variety of things you can put in your pot to enjoy the Shabu-Shabu
displayed in a big hall. You’d better to go to Hongdae and try some delicious
huǒguō right now!
